Day 8: Psalms of Praise & Thanksgiving

“For the LORD is good.” (Psalm 100:5)

I'm kneeling this morning, head bowed low on the floor, heart a mass of uncertainty and fear. What is there to praise for, give thanks for, or
even live for?

Today I'm tackling the worst of the worst—wading through divorce papers served me yesterday by someone I didn't know. As she turned to leave, I asked who she was and saw tears in her eyes. My own began to flow, and haven't stopped.

Divorce is so foreign to my vocabulary, I can't stomach the word. But sometimes, God allows us to walk the fire until it becomes so hot we are certain the scorch will render us incapacitated. I remember following a sister on Twitter while she lived without her man, and devouring her words because the threat of divorce had entered my own home.

Today, it's reality. Sisters, how to be thankful, today? When you'd rather rip into reality with a knife sharp enough to slice into a better fantasy—but you wake again with that same dull ache, wondering how you're going to do this.

My head is bowed, but God is the lifter of my head. I soak in the words, “Holy, holy, holy, are You, Lord God Almighty.”

I smile. God is so big, so awesome, so flat out amazing that His reality stays the same regardless of what man chooses. Today, we get to live in His reality. Praise and thanksgiving get to be on our lips because of who He is.

And when our lips are silent, praise gets to be in our hearts. God hears the sound of the heart just as much as the vibration of our lips. We get to have our hearts synced with His, even when our heads are bowed because our God gives us His word, and it never returns to Him void.

Let your heart praise him even when your lips are silent for a season!
