“Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.” (Proverbs 8:10-11 NIV)
“Who can find a virtuous wife[woman]? For her worth is far above rubies.” (Proverbs 31:10 NKJV) Do you see the parallel in these two verses? The Bible names two things more valuable than rubies - wisdom and a virtuous woman. One we choose, the other we become. According to the Scripture reference from Proverbs 8, we get to choose wisdom. We are instructed to consciously pursue wisdom from the Lord and ask for more as we want or need it. As we gain and apply wisdom, we grow into more virtuous women. No matter our titles in life – mom, wife, grandmother – wherever we are, wisdom is always the better choice for ourselves and those around us. Ecclesiastes 7:12 refers to wisdom as a shelter. In similar ways, a virtuous mother is a shelter for her child’s heart. A mother is the protector of her child’s heart, the gate keeper of her child’s mind, and the instructor of her child’s first steps. Without a doubt, a woman who chooses wisdom builds rubies upon rubies into her child’s life. And even still, both wisdom and the woman are said to be worth more. Choose wisdom today, dear mama. In the little things, choose wisdom. In the chaos, reach for wisdom. During easy moments and dark moments, run to wisdom first, for wisdom is a “who” more than a “what.” Wisdom is “Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24 NIV). Make Wisdom your non-negotiable today; choose His instruction in all your ways, through all your days. May you become a fountain of wisdom; your mouth its home, your hands its touch. May it be your go-to friend, your crowning trait. -Kaylene
