Day 6: Matthew 6-9

“That your fasting may not be seen by others, but by your Father who sees in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:18)

I remember fasting for days at a time, trying desperately to gain favor with God (and man). I remember working with an empty stomach growling it's way to my rib cage, and my tongue growling at those around me.

Ever been “hangry”?!

I want us to take this thing of not doing things to be seen by man a step further, and realize we also don't need to do things to be seen by God. Did you get that?

Our lives must be permeated with an awareness that we are already seen by God, and as such, are deeply loved and highly valued with a tender look only the Creator of our souls could give us. Our works do nothing to make us more valuable to Him.

Align your heart to His love, and you will live out love. If we love God in truth, we keep His commandments—but it's a fruit springing from rest rather than work pumped out with exhaustion in hopes of something in return.

My life changed when I learned not to trust in my faith, but to trust in God. I finally realized what faith really was—a simple act of leaning my head onto the bosom of Christ, and never lifting it again.

Life does not begin and end with us, sisters. We live, and move, and have our being in HIM. When He calls us to serve Him, He means to invite us to rest in Him. Then (and only then) will we be truly holy. It all begins and ends with walking closely to the Father's heart.

Allow your heart to know that you are fully seen, fully loved, and fully forgiven in Christ. When you have sin, take that sin and dump it at His feet. Lift your eyes up to the Great Redeemer more than you lower them to your own small life.

You will change from the inside out, fully seen by a God who saw you before you ever stared at yourself in a mirror.
