“From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:20-21, NIV)
Have you ever had to “eat your own words,” or said something you later regret? Me too. It took a while to digest the words I spoke in pride. Humble pie is not my favorite desert. Still, it was an awakening I needed. It helped me see that my words and actions aren’t always appropriate. Do we ever really listen to what comes out of our mouths, the fruit we are projecting verbally? Our tongue has the power of life and death, and we will eat the fruits of it. Even more concerning is the fact that what we say is being fed into other people’s lives. How often do we force feed our children with our anger? How many days have our children been fed junk rather than wisdom? What do they hear coming from us? Gossip… anger… slander… cussing… doubt… fear… all these build our children’s thought processes and vocabulary. Love… grace… patience… thanksgiving… praise… truth… all these construct correct mindsets and verbiage in our children. What we speak, we will reap. Speak evil, reap destruction. Speak life, reap construction. Speak wisely today. Start building, growing and fertilizing the life you want to eat more of. “From the fruit of [her] lips [a woman] enjoys good things.” (Proverbs 13:2, NIV) -Kaylene
