“‘Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.’ And he promised her with an oath, ‘Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.’” (Mark 6:22-23, NIV)
The story of Herodias’ daughter asking for the head of John the Baptist on a platter might freak you out. It did me. I’ll bet that was not what Herod expected when he promised to give the girl whatever she asked. Yet, because he had given his word, he kept his promise. How much more does a good God keep his promises to his children? The Bible says in James 4:2, “You do not have because you do not ask God.” Also, Matthew 7:11 tells us that God gives “good gifts to those who ask him!” What are you asking God for today? If you’re not sure what to ask for, here are some ideas. Ask God for: - wisdom to parent well - protection over your children - a heart that believes His promises - discernment in making decisions that please Him - a desire for His Word - faith to trust that He is a good God I believe those are the kinds of requests God loves to answer. We know that God’s answers don’t always show up the way we expect, and you might be tempted to think that God has forgotten you. Allow me to encourage you today. God loves to shower His children with good gifts. Sometimes all we have to do is ask. -Marva
