“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV)
In Matthew 7 we keep coming back to one thing: grounding our lives and parenting in the Word of God. Jesus ends his Sermon on the Mount with an illustration to bring all of His points home. He tells us that if we hear His words and obey them, our houses will stand strong, no matter what storms come against them. There are times when obeying God’s Word leaves us feeling vulnerable and lonely. It is not popular, sometimes even in Christian circles, to strictly follow the teachings of Jesus. But feelings are not what define our security. Jesus does. And He says if we build our lives on His Word, we will not fall. We find this theme throughout Scripture from the Old Testament to the New. I am going to finish today by sharing several verses that describe God’s protection over us when we follow His way. “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:5 NKJV) “You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7 NKJV) “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1 NKJV) “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NKJV) -Stefani
