“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV)
Today’s verse is a serious admonition and one that we as moms need to pay attention to. Imagine yourself traveling by foot on a dirt road. In the distance, you see a large wall. It’s too high to climb over and seems to stretch endlessly to your right and left. You see a big, beautiful gate in the distance. The gate is wonderful to look at, but you know it opens to destruction. You also know that somewhere there is a smaller gate which will lead you to your destination. But how do you get there? You follow your map. God, in His kindness, not only told us to stay off the broad, easy highway, but He has also given us a map to guide us on the narrow road: His own Word. In these days of GPS guidance, many of us have forgotten how to follow a map and are quick to follow a computerized voice on our smartphones. Sadly, this is how many of us live our Christian lives as well. Rather than seeking out God’s Word on an important matter, we go to our phones and research what others have to say about it. We would rather listen to another person’s interpretation of God’s Word than read it and allow Him to speak to us personally. God exhorts us to teach and encourage one another, but He did not create others to be our map to eternity. Raising children in this world is a big responsibility, and we need to be certain we are constantly comparing our actions to the Word of God and adjusting them accordingly, rather than comparing ourselves to our favorite Bible teacher or Instagram encourager. Drink in the Biblical teaching of other Christians, but immerse yourself in God’s Word. -Stefani
